Tras años de éxitos que lo consolidaron como estrella pop indiscutible, y cuando tanto crítica como aficionados al jazz ya lo consideraban totalmente irrecuperable, Nat "King" Cole volvió a sentarse delante del piano en los estudios Capitol para ofrecer un último gran set. En la grabación de After Midnight, The Complete Session (Capitol Records, 1956), Cole no volvió solo, sino que lo hizo acompañado de cuatro invitados muy especiales: el trompetista nacido en Ohio Harry "Sweets" Edison, el saxo alto Willie Smith (ganador de dos premios Esquire los años 1945 y 1947), el trombonista y compositor de dos de los grandes clásicos del jazz -"Caravan" y "Perdido"- Juan Tizol, y uno de los pocos violinistas del género, Stuff Smith. Altamente recomendable.
